I've shown Maltese since 1972 and have bred many champions under my
kennel prefix 'Velette'. Over the years I've enjoyed some lovely wins with my Maltese in all states of Australia, except for Tasmania, and for a time in the mid 80s had several lovely Japanese Chin which did some winning. My biggest winning dog has been Ch. Sweetemper Sensation who I retired at 3½ years of age with 27 Best In Shows, 9 Specialty Best in Shows in 3 states, Puppy in Show and 2 Best in Groups at Adelaide Royal and Best in Show at Canberra Royal.
I showed many of his sons and daughters with considerable success including Aust. Ch. BIS Kelcheree Steal A Heart (Jenna) who was the first Toy in WA to win Best in
Show at our Western Classic Dog Show in 1991. One of Jenna's daughters Aust. Ch. BIS Velette Steal A Kiss is pictured on this page winning Runner Up Best Exhibit in Group at Perth Royal.
There has only been two other Toys to win the
prestigious award of BIS at the Western Classic Dog Show since, one of which was this year's winner
Ch. Chinaroad Flying
Colours, the sire of my Löwchen Ch. Chinaroad Mercedes (Sacha), a stunning silver and cream
girl, who we welcomed into our home at the latter part of last year. Sacha has made quite an impact in the show ring with
16 Toy Group wins in just 8 months of showing. Amongst her achievements are Puppy in Group at Perth Royal, Minor Puppy in Show WA Toy Dog Specialist show 2002, and
in 2003 Runner Up to Best in Group,
several Classes In Group and In Show, and R/U Best Exhibit in Show at the Löwchen Specialty Championship show
in Sydney April, 2003. A great start with a new breed, and such a delightful youngster to have around.
Sacha is now retired for maternal duties, and is replaced by her younger
sister CH. Chinaroad True Colours (Vegas), who was awarded Best Exhibit in Show
at only six months of age! Vegas is continuing on her winning way and is a pleasure to live with.
In 1998, I gained my
A.N.K.C. Group 1 (Toy Breeds) Judging Licence, and have enjoyed my appointments
on the east and west coasts of Australia.
