The Löwchen is a highly intelligent, small, lively and affectionate companion dog which has been in existence for some 600 years. According to the Guinness Book of Records, in 1969 the Löwchen was the rarest breed in the world, with only about 40 dogs recorded as existing.

There is so much history surrounding these sturdy little dogs, and it is said that a Knight who died in battle had a lion sculpted on his monument, whilst one who died less heroically had a Löwchen at his feet!
Painting by Goya
Tapestries from France, woodcuts from Germany, paintings from Belgium all help place the Löwchen throughout Europe over the centuries. Goya's portrait of the Duchess of Alba in 1795 is one of many paintings of the period to depict Löwchens.

Our lives changed with the introduction of Löwchens into our family, and I can never see us being without a Löwchen in future years. They just settle in to any situation and trust you well enough to figure that if it's okay with you, then it's okay with them! I've found the Löwchen to be very willing to please, therefore very easy to train, and because they're so full of themselves, they enjoy going as many places as they can with you.

Our foundation bitch, R/U BIS Australian CH Elguarda China Doll, is still with us today as a lively and healthy 15-year-old. She still helps train the puppies.

My sincere appreciation to the many International and National Judges who have awarded my dogs over the years. Please accept this as my personal "thank you" to each and every one. My satisfaction has been in knowing that my dogs have won on their merits and I thank you sincerely for that.
